Walking (and Running) Wild Lewisboro

The Lewisboro Land Trust has put together a fantastic booklet for trail lovers (runners, walkers, and hikers can all benefit) called “Walking Wild Lewisboro.”

Walking Wild Lewisboro contains details about 20 preserves and parks in Lewisboro, including the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation (#20 in the map shown here) which has its entrance and about 1/3 of its acreage in Cross River, NY (a village in the Town of Lewisboro).  In fact, more than 90% of the Leatherman’s Loop trail run takes place in Lewisboro (Cross River to Pound Ridge to South Salem then back to Cross River).  It is well worth becoming familiar with the trail systems inside this friendly town.

The “Walking Wild Lewisboro” guide is available for a contribution of $5.00. The trail guide is available at several Lewisboro locations including: Lewisboro Town House, Lewisboro Parks & Recreation, Lewisboro Library and the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Main Office Building.  It can also be found (when it has not sold out!) at Cross River Wine at the Cross River Shopping center.

In future entries, I will explore several of these trails and preserves in the “How Do You Train?” series, including the Leon Levy Preserve (#8 in map), Mountain Lakes Park (#13), Indian Brook (#6) + Mount Holly (#14), Hunt-Parker (#7), Onatru Farm (#17), Old Church Lane (#16), Lewisboro Town Park (#9 featuring ajoining trails with the Rez), and of course the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation (#20).  If you have walked or run any of these trails, please let us know what you think of them.  Happy Trails!
