Ray Viscome, a runner from Silver Lake, NY, ran the 2012 course in 1:00:32. He had run it once before (1999) and did it with help from running support buddies Rich Izzo and Thomas Bookless. His amazing time is even more amazing since he runs with an artificial leg and has to be carried across the stream crossings since the joint can’t get wet.

Dogs and the Loop

If you plan to run with your dog in the 2020 Loop, we have the following rules:

General rules:

  • All dogs must be leashed at all times in county parks
  • No long, extended, or retractable leads allowed

Race rules:

  • You MUST start at the back of the pack and wait for a “Thirty-1000” count (30 seconds) after the start before starting yourself. This is to avoid leash entanglements and tripping in the meadow start.

These rules are for the safety of all runners, dogs, and park visitors. We will make this announcement at the start line of the Loop as well.

Most runners with dogs have followed our safety rules. Unfortunately, we had a few runners not respect these rules in past years. We are sure this is unintentional or due to not knowing the race rules. Any runner who does not follow these rules with their dog will not be accepted in future Loop Lotteries.

More information on dogs at the loop is at our FAQ page: http://leathermansloop.org/faq/#dogs

Thanks for your understanding and attention to safety – and see you on the trails!

It addresses questions about group lottery entry, duplicate registrations, t-shirt purchasing, and other questions you might have. Muddiest Runners Class of 2019!

Congratulations to the Leatherman’s Loop Class of 2019 “Muddiest Runners” — 44 very muddy trail runners who have entered the Muddiest Runner tier of Leatherman’s Loop-dom.

They achieved this by completing SEVEN Loops as of 2019. They join over 500 other runners (out of 25,000+ loop finishes) who have reached or exceeded this high mud marker.

One member of the Class of 2019 we’d like to highlight: John Young. Not only is he the oldest runner ever to complete a Loop at 85 years young, but this year he reached the muddiest runner page. It is an achievement in persistence, health, luck, and some questionable decision making. Congratulations John!
