There have been over 29,000 finish line crossings at the Leatherman’s Loop in 37 years. Over 13,350 different runners are represented as finishers.
For the past few years, between 60-65% of Loop runners are returning to run a second loop or higher. On the flip side, each year sees around 35-40% of the field as brand new runners new to the Loop.
Below is a list, to the best of our knowledge, of all loop runners with seven (7) or more finishes to their credit – aka “The Muddiest Runners.”
This is based off the results boards here plus the transcribed results here combined with the electronic scoring since 2008. Thanks to Mel Cowgill for going back and transcribing the results from the poster boards from 2004 and prior and putting it into a format where we could figure out all this stuff.
We have also put a page here showing every runner who has 5 or more Loops under their belt plus highest finish and best time recorded.

If your name does not appear and you think it should, take a look at the transcribed results and the results boards to help us track down your results.
Anyone who is on the above list is guaranteed a spot in the Loop as long as they register for the Lottery and their name, age, and registration email address match our records. Contact us if you have questions about this.
Each year we will update this list after we induct new runners into the Muddiest Runners list after they have completed their 7th Loop. As an example, if you are inducted in 2025, you will be in the “Muddiest Runners Class of 2025“
It is possible, for example, if you ran under “Bob Smith” one year and “Robert Smith” or “R. Smith” in other years we might not have caught the different spellings and joined them up. It’s also possible that we totally butchered the spelling of your last name (we apologize!) on some of the entries or during the transcription from the results boards. We have done our best to catch these mistakes but sometimes they slip through.
If you see a problem, drop us a note pointing us to any information you find that supports your claim.
Another possibility is if you changed you name due to change in marital status. Unless we were invited to the wedding, it’s pretty hard for us to know that! 😉 Let us know where to look in the results and we’ll link up your different names.
We won’t just add your name on your say so — we need some evidence to back up your claim. Help us out by checking the results boards and the transcribed results. It is all there (well, except one photo of a results page from 1995, but those are in the transcribed results).
Note: if you ran under someone else’s bib (Bandit/Turkey) we will not adjust the results to reflect those runs.
There are an additional 277 runners with 6 Loops (on the cusp of becoming a muddiest runner!) plus another 387 runners who have run 5 Loops. This makes 1,406 runners who have run 5 or more Loops (see the list of all runners with more than 5 Loops run).
We have a list of these runners — so if you think you are close to 7 or just want to know how many Loops we have tracked for you, get in touch (Don’t expect a quick answer if you get in touch in late March or April though! ;-)).

Red Stripe Bibs
Runners who are on their 10th or higher Loop and are registered to run in the current year will pick up a bib with a special “Red Stripe” highlighting their bib name. If you have any questions about the race, these runners are among the best to ask — as long as they are willing to share 🙂
Runners with 20 or more Loops under their belt have received a special 20+ Loops cap as a unique reward.
